CIALAB Hosting Fulbright Scholar

The OSU Department of Biomedical Informatics Clinical Image Analysis (CIA) Lab is hosting Dr. Erkan Mumcuoglu as a Fulbright visiting professor. Dr. Mumcuoglu is an Associate Professor of Medical Informatics at Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey. He is also among the founders of the same department.

Dr. Mumcuoglu's main research interest is Medical Image Analysis: segmentation, registration, computer-aided diagnosis and content-based image retrieval. His Ph.D. degree is from University of Southern California on statistical PET image reconstruction algorithms and modeling. Dr. Mumcuoglu has been collaborating with Dr. Metin Gurcan from our department in the segmentation of retinal mitocondria on electron-microscopy images.

Dr. Mumcuoglu is going to give a talk on his research actvities on Feb. 12 at 4 pm as part of the departmental Research In Progress (RIP) Seminar Series.

Automated Staging Of T1 Bladder Cancer Using Digital Pathologic H&E Images: A Deep Learning approach (Journal of Urology). CIALAB encouraging talented young minds with summer internships

CIALAB is pleased to introduce the three interns namely Tong Gan, Rosana Rodriguez Milanes and Michael Priddy working through summer’09. Rosana Rodriguez Milanes - I am a third year undergraduate student in Electronic Engineering from Universidad del Norte, Colombia. My experience as a volunteer foreign student in the Clinical Image Analysis Laboratory has been an edifying, gratifying and enriching. Being able to participate, to learn and to collaborate in the Clinical Image Analysis Laboratory during the past two weeks has allowed me to improve my analytical and interpretative skills in processing histopathological and MRI images. I have been able to learn about segmentation, region growing, splitting and merging algorithms development. Drs. Goceri and Gurcan Published in Computer in Biology and Medicine Journal

Drs.  Goceri and Gurcan have a new paper published in Computers in Biology and Medicine, April 2016 edition. Their paper "Quantification of liver fat: A comprehensive review" provides an overview on recent advantages in liver fat quantification and discusses the role of dedicated imaging modalities for quantification of liver fat. Their paper also assesses the potential role of automated image processing methodologies to aid in image analysis.
